Team Switzerland: to consistency under new leadership

The Swiss epee team is causing a stir internationally: Two victories in four World Cup team competitions speak for themselves. The breadth of the squad is particularly pleasing – alongside the established players, young athletes are also performing at the highest level. The anticipation for the team competition on Whit Sunday is correspondingly high.

Daniel Jerent knows what it means to score the last goal at world championships. Born in Guadeloupe, he won World Championship and Olympic medals with France and shaped an era in international epee. He has been the national coach of the Swiss men’s epee team since January 1, 2025. His ambition is clear: to turn good results into international consistency – and a strong team into a reference in world epee.

The Swiss Fencing Team has won two out of four team competitions so far this season. Their worst result was a fifth place in Astana a month ago. It is pleasing to note that in addition to the well-known top performers Alexis Bayard and Ian Hauri, there are also alternatives in young athletes. A total of eight different athletes have been in the team line-up this season – a diversity unthinkable in recent years.

We are looking forward to exciting battles in the team competition on Whit Sunday. Of course, we hope that the Swiss team will do well.
